Recovering the original
In the historic center of Barcelona, a dwelling is being renovated in a building constructed in 1840. It is located on the emblematic Escudellers Street, which was the center of the potters’ guild in the Middle Ages. The route up to the apartment constructs an experience that will continue in its interior, generating intense experiences, moving away from the frantic rhythm of the city: a break, an oasis in the heart of the historic center, on one of its busiest streets. The project is resolved with this premise in mind. The main bathroom was primarily resolved by using a porous stone that changes color when wet. This stone is used to build a bathtub-spa. Light, water, dry, wet… Interesting relationships are generated between the elements, with a poetic dialogue. Priority has been given to the preservation and restoration of the original building elements which, together with their historical patina, provide clear added value.
