Single family home
Leaving the conventional closing system
The house is located in the exclusive and quiet neighborhood of Pedralbes in Barcelona. It offers good views of the city, the Montjuïc Mountain, and the Mediterranean Sea.
Access is on foot from the north end, and an aromatic garden accompanies you to the main entrance located on the ground floor. Inside, the interior patio configures a landscaped area that connects the three floors and receives a bath of overhead light.
The first floor, with a wooden facade and openings at full height, is supported by an arrangement of stone walls so that the ground floor can become a large porch. This can be left open due to the design of the large sliding glass walls The stratification, resulting from the change of materials between the different levels, allows the ground floor to disappear, creating the feeling that the house, as if it were one floor, rests on these stone walls. The walls extend towards the garden, abandoning the conventional system of distributive enclosures, achieving a sequence of visuals and unique relationships between the different spaces. The walls lose their closing character, becoming supports for the upper floor and allowing these intense relationships at the ground floor level.
The planters located in the interior spaces of the ground floor accentuate this sensation of permeability among the different spaces, all related to the same level as the garden.
