SPACES FOR CONTEMPLATION
The cemetery of Mont-roig del Camp, surrounded by olive groves, was built in 1862 and is located near the town center, just north of its historic center. An architectural solution is proposed that allows for an extension to the south, taking advantage of the available free space, while respecting the existing height. On the lower level of the vacated area, a parking lot and a ramp are built to provide a new access.
The parking area is limited to the south by a ravine, bordered by poplars. Plane trees are planted in the parking lot pits and olive trees in the eastern parterre, the same olive trees found in the neighboring fields. The majestic pine that dominates the central distributor space is maintained throughout the intervention. The concrete platforms distributed in two linear combs are designed to house columbaria when the old space of the enclosure is used in its entirety. In the center between these linear forms are placed flowerbeds and linear concrete benches.
The earthy color and texture of the Roman travertine laid as paving, combined with Corten steel and local stone gravel, are ideal materials to maintain the harmony of color with the surrounding environment.
